The Real Enemy in Kempo is Oneself
White Lotus Kempo is martial art that is composed of self defense (physical and mental), dynamic Kempo yoga, meditation in movement (jap. Kata) and sitting meditation (jap. Meiso/Mocuso), massage and diet (jap. Ryorido). Every component is essential and should not be neglected.
If Kempo Ka (kempo student) practices Kempo in its fullness, the favorable effects will be elastic but strong body with healthy and well-balanced mind. Kempo helps in gaining self-confidence, creativity, physical condition and eliminates ego, stress, anxiety, fears and all other negative states of mind.
Let go through one basic task for Kempo Ka – Dachi (stance). When taking a very low Kiba Dachi (horse stance), after 30 second our mind is vigorously trying to find a way to move our body from that stance. Although our body is completely capable of holding this stance for half an hour, our mind will find million reasons to move us from that stance. Is the real reason the pain in muscles or are we just slaves of our desires and pleasures? How do we cope with unexpected and painful situations? Is it in that moment in our lives possible to move our body in more pleasurable stance? These are the question to which a true Kempo Ka is trying to find an answer, while holding a simple stance as a horse stance.
Kempo is martial art, not a sport and therefore there is no sport competition. The only true competition in Kempo, the real fight, is to overcome all negative inner states of mind (stress, anxiety etc. created with today’s fast way of living) through hard physical practice. Therefore the only real enemy in Kempo is oneself� and that is the true essence of Kempo.
Overcome yourself, ‘loose’� yourself and then you will gain true freedom and only then the White Lotus Kempo will really become the Way without limits.
